Lee & Cushing horror old firm strikes again: "Monster? We're British!"
20 May 2022
Never heard of director Eugenio Martin, and I do not care not to hear again after watching this example of substandard photography, indulgent horror flick.

Lee & Cushing, that old firm in British horror, somehow meet on a train carrying a mummy that Lee unearthed somewhere in China, and go aboard a train in Beijing, then called Peking, and apparently under Russian occupation. A Rasputin-like priest, awfully played by Alberto Mendoza, flits in and out of conversations, at first selling the Lord, later selling the devil. Why Telly Savalas appears in this film, in a small and rather meaningless part, beats me.

Still, the film has its moments, it even manages some dark humor between the horrific decimation of human life. The best punch comes from Cushing's line: "Monster? We're British!"

The musical theme does not seem quite right for a horror show, but it struck me as very catchy, and I whistled it for a coupla days.
