Stay away from this planet of the apes.

Warning: Spoilers
Painfully loud and unfunny, this sequel to "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones" is only moderately amusing when the chimp appears on screen, and it wasn't enough for me. Tommy Kirk, Annette Funnicello, Leon Ames and the future Debbie the Gloop are back, along with veteran character actress Connie Gilchrist and the most ridiculously written college students, in a situation that asks the question, "Who greenlighted these scripts?" My parents used to drop us off at movie theaters to watch Disney comedies when my siblings and I were young, and in seeing some of these films years later, I look on it as some sort of child abuse.

Of course the chimp is cute, and it's not surprising that she would soon be cast on "Lost in Space". She's joined here by future costar Mark Goddard as Kirk's rival for Funnicello. The plot is all over the place, once again seeming like two sitcoms jumbled together to make a full length film, dealing with ridiculous scientific experiments concerning mind reading, the efforts to rid Midvale College of its football team (resulting in some very badly acted fighting between Ames and veteran character actor Frank Faylen), and screeching arguments between Kirk and Funnicello over the chimp's sexy babysitter who can read Kirk's mind. This is one crazy uncle that deserves to be locked in the attic. I'd rather hear 90 minutes of chimp screeching than the painfully unfunny human dialog spoken here.
