Nice and fun flick in which massive and gigantic monsters appear to cause cataclysm , disorder and chaos . Athena-1, a space station owned by gene manipulation company Energyne, is destroyed after a laboratory rat mutates and wreaks havoc. Dr. Kerry Atkins (Naomie Harris) , the lone surviving crew member, is ordered by CEO Claire Wyden (Malin Akerman) and her brother Brett (Jake Lacy) to retrieve research canisters containing a pathogen. While Primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) , a former US Army Special Forces soldier and member of an anti-poaching unit, works at the San Diego Wildlife Sanctuary. He has befriended a rare albino western lowland gorilla named George, having saved him from poachers, and communicates with George using sign language and hand gestures. When the greed-fueled corporation's genetic experiment goes awry, George and other animals across the country are mutated into aggressive supercreatures who destroy everything in their path. As the dangerous experiment turns animals into ravenous monsters of gargantuan proportions . The falling pieces leave a trail of debris across the United States, including a gray wolf from Wyoming and in the Everglades in Florida, where a canister is consumed by a Croc and along the way , George is exposed to the pathogen. This non-sense but enjoyable disaster movie was decently directed by the Canadian writer/producer/filmmaker Brad Peyton , though with no originality and it has some flaws and gaps .
