Cozy Saturday afternoon drama thriller
25 August 2022
Is it a great film? No. Is it entertaining? Well, it does what it sets out to do. It's a run of the mill early 1990s domestic thriller. That said, it's definitely the best among those released at that time. Critics were pretty harsh on it when it came out. I don't know why. Though now I think the film has a cult following.

I thought Julia Roberts' performance was terrific and rather convincing. The actor playing her husband at over 6 feet tall did make one frightening wife abuser. Something about this film and its relaxing atmosphere that I enjoyed - Perhaps the set design, the beach setting and the cozy small town. Must be also some nostalgia there too.

The sweeping score by Jerry Goldsmith was very pleasant to the ear. It was one of the best things about this film. The theme music is quite beautiful. One of the film's highlights for sure.

If you're bored on a Sunday afternoon, tune in to this film. It will be a good time-waster. Suspense starts later in the film, but the scenes between Laura and her new love interest, and as well as her abusive husband Martin who is investigating, are very entertaining themselves.
