Mis-characterized As A Comedy Should be a Light Tissue demanding Drama
4 September 2022
Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown were brilliant in their respective roles and while there wasn't chemistry between the two of them I took that as part of the struggle trying to get expressed in the relationship between the "Pastor" and the "First lady". I found it painful to watch because it pushed the harsh realities of messy human through the ambitions, callings and competitive natures within and between churches. I found the interjection of the documenting person difficult to grasp since it wasn't a flowing part of the movie dialogue. It is a captivating watch mainly because I think it keeps you looking for that moment when something bigly defining would happen but maybe that is the reality of of yesterdays church generation. Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown as I said were brilliant and have that something in their acting that keeps it deep so it was hard to sit shallow with this one.
