Not a mindless action thriller
4 September 2022
I was anticipating mindless action and plenty of blood and gore. And it serves this in copious amount. However, the first punch is thrown past the hour mark. And the reason for it is the story's arc.

I was pleasantly surprised by the effort that seems to have gone into building up the characters. It seemed too saccharine at times. But also felt sincere, as if the audience intelligence was not being taken for granted.

The dark turn that it takes is gut wrenching and will literally leave you baying for blood to be spilled.

It held my attention for close to 105 minutes of its 140 minute runtime. It is shot in the nether regions of UP and the scenery enhances the anticipation of the crime and the characters involved in it.

It was when the action moved away from the desi shores that it slipped into realm of unreality.

Vidyut Jamwal has deliberately tried to underplay his action hero antecedents and he succeeds for the most part. However, by the end, he becomes this killing machine and it becomes almost impossible to believe his character arc.

It is an old fashioned masala film where the ingredients are mixed almost appropriately. Some editing in the first and last 30 minutes would have ensured an even crisper revenge thriller.
