Period piece, during the civil war. The north wants to keep the gold coming east, while the south is determined to stop it. Our hero captain hayes (randolph scott) is told to keep the gold moving, in spite of the southerners working against them. Drama, intrigue, and the love interest (virginia mayo). Part of the story here is what's motivating the various people; for some, it's loyalty to their homeland; for others, it's love, or just doing the right thing. Predictable, but the randolph scott fans will dig it. It's okay. Directed by budd boetticher; he was nominated for the bullfighter and the lady. Randy scott only made three more films after this......he was already about sixty.
