No, maestro Lubitsch!
5 November 2022
When I have to rely to external sources (like the Wikipedia or the IMDb) to try to understand what really happens in the film (and those sources sometimes disagree with each other), than I suppose something has gone wrong. With the film, with me, with both.

To whom was Dr. Franz Braun going to give the flowers? We (the audience) are never told that.

Why is Mizzie Stock trying to seduce Franz Braun? Has she fallen in love with him? Is she trying to blackmail him? Does she want to show - in a sort of inner revenge of an envious woman - to her friend Charlotte Braun (Franz's wife) that her marriage is not as heavenly as she thinks? We (the audience) are never told that.

Why is Franz Braun repetedly seen kissing Mizzie? Is he in love? Is he just stupid?

To top it all off, why Dr. Gustav Mueller (Charlotte's secret admirer), in the end, reunites with Mizzie (who he has never met before)?

Why, maestro?
