This could have been such a great movie if they hadn't rushed it or done a bit of research on formerly enslaved people. For instance, someone living in the 19th century wouldn't be accustomed to modern bathrooms, know how to hold a phone's receiver, no fear of TV, cars, trucks, modern lamps, electricity, instantly loose all fear of whites in power...the list is endless. Why did they rush the character development on Alice? And why were the filmmaker so lazy with the seemingly obvious? We're really supposed to believe that Alice easily she ditched her corsets to his clothes that magically fit her perfectly -- despite him being a half a foot taller and at least 50lbs. Heaver? Palmer's outstanding performance is the main reason to see this film. Too bad the awful script gave her so little to work with.
