From the fall of the early Sumerian cities, to the Assyrian Empire, Bronze Age Collapse, destruction of the Han Dynasty, Roman Britain, the Mayan, Incans, Aztecs, Easter Island, Nabataeans, the medieval Hindu empire of Vijayanagara, Khmer Empire, Bagan, and more -- these stories documenting the decline and collapse of civilizations are wonderful, with excellent scholarship and even greater artfulness. The feeling of tragedy is such that some episodes will have you very nearly in tears at the end, and will quite likely mess up your head for the rest of the day.
