WWE Royal Rumble (2006 TV Special)
4/10
Went just as expected. Not a good show

Warning: Spoilers
Royal Rumble 2006 was the 19th annual Royal Rumble PPV event produced by the WWE. The show took place on January 29, 2006 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. Attendence was set at 16,000 with a buyrate of 585,000. This big PPV took place a few months after the tragic passing of the late-great Eddie Guerrero.

6 matches took place on the card including the traditional royal rumble with it's same rules. This PPV build up mainly centered focus on Rey Mysterio who made a promise to win it all for Eddie Guerrero. WWE were taking a big chance to have the smallest guy when the rumble. We also had 2 world title matches. To be honest, the card wasn't that intriguing.

The Good - Well, Rey Mysterio winning the rumble and receiving a push because of Eddie's death was questionable but looking back it didn't damage anything. It worked out pretty well. The royal rumble match itself was pretty good but not great. It started out slow, then went to getting a little interesting. It's last 10 entrants made it get good. Triple H and Rey Mysterio were two best Performers of the match. The opening of the Cruiserweight Championship 6 Pac match (dubbed something else) was also good. Helms winning went on to make a pretty good run as the champ.

The Meh - The WWE Championship match was above average. Cena beating Edge just 3 weeks after his first reign wasn't such a brilliant move by the bookers but Edge didn't get his career damage luckily. John Cena and Edge had much better matches later at the end. I also don't know how I exactly feel of the rumble not main eventing.

The Bad - The main event choice was poor. Mark Henry at this time was very limited and Kurt Angle unfortunately couldn't get him over in the match. You just never see bad matches with Kurt Angle. I said earlier rumble not main eventing was odd but it certainly would have been more better than this. I'd even accept Edge vs. John Cena over this main event. Also the Divas match and Boogeyman/JBL match were also terrible for PPV spots. Ashley Massaro wasn't ready at this time and the Boogeyman as entertaining as he was, also sucked in the ring. Last the crowd of this show wasn't that good. Not sure if it was just the card that bored them.

Overall - Not a good show at all. The show had a weak card on paper and it didn't exceed expectations. If one match on this show could have gotten a 4 star rating, I might have given this show more credit but unfortunately one of the weakest Royal Rumble PPVs.
