Since it's creation in 1969, Scooby Doo has become an iconic cartoon series and character for everyone. Whether you grew up watching the original series, to What's New Scooby Doo, or the great Mystery Incorporated, Scooby Doo is still a popular franchise and beloved by pretty much everyone.

The franchise isn't perfect and has had its downward moments. Such example being the Scrappy Doo years when they used him too much in a lot of shows and left a bad taste. Another being the awful Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a Clue. At least in those shows' favor you can tell there's still elements of what made Scooby Doo so memorable and great.

I say this because Velma has virtually next to nothing to do with Scooby Doo. Sure, you got the characters (except Shaggy is someone else) and Velma saying her iconic "Jinkies!", but that's about it. It may promise the idea of a mystery and how the gang got together, but after watching the first two episodes of this show if this is how the Mystery Gang got together the way they are, I doubt they'd want to stick together very long.

The first, and arguably the biggest sin, is the complete absence of Scooby Doo himself. Yes, the dog that's usually the title character of every Scooby Doo series is missing completely. Apparently, the studio wouldn't let the team use him to protect imaging brand. Yes, they wouldn't let Scooby Doo be used in a show about Scooby himself and the Mystery Gang. Why even have the Scooby Doo license if the dog himself isn't allowed in the show? Trust me when I say this is one of the least of this show's problems.

This show seems to hate its audience and hate you for liking Scooby Doo in general. It seems to take pleasure at taking pot shots at its own franchise. It mocks others for liking what made the franchise so memorable in an attempt to be edgy and meta. Instead, it's just insulting and downright boring.

The jokes are dreadful. Many of them are overly drawn out and fail to deliver anything really funny. Most of the jokes are also so clear to see where its going that you can take a good guess how it's going to play out. There's virtually no cleverness here or wit.

The characters, unsurprisingly, are unlikable too. Fred is completely destroyed in this series and made to look absolutely incompetent when he's usually a great leader who looks out for his friends and helps keep them together. Daphne is just some stereotypical rich girl. Shaggy (I refuse to call him his new name) is just boring now. Velma herself is easily the worst of them all. Velma is usually the most level headed of the group and has great intelligence and her sassiness made her really great. Velma in this show is nothing like that. She's very nasty, cruel, and beyond arrogant in this series. She's cruel to her own friends and to everyone around her. If Velma was like this in any other Scooby Doo show, the others wouldn't put up with her at all and probably want to stay away from her. Honestly, this "Mystery Gang" is so bad that you'd think they were from a bad parody from a Robot Chicken sketch or an episode of South Park.

This series also has been saying it's supposed to be about how the Scooby Doo gang got together. Well, we already have plenty of material and even a TV movie that shows the origins. It was Called Scooby Doo The Mystery Begins, and while that movie was flawed it at least treated the franchise with more respect than this. This is easily one of the worst origin stories for an iconic group ever.

I truly can't recommend this show to anyone at all. It's not for Scooby Doo fans. It's not for adults. It's not really for anyone at all. It has no clue who it's for and what the target audience is. If it's not boring you with its attempts to joke about its own franchise, it's annoying you with how bad the characters are.

You know, if this show didn't have the Scooby Doo license all over it, I doubt this show would've gotten a second look. It would've been met with a shrug and be overlooked. They probably slapped it on at the last second to try and draw in more views.

If you want to see Scooby Doo for adults, go watch Mike Tyson Mysteries, Mystery Incorporated, or the excellent Supernatural crossover with Scooby Doo. Just forget this show ever happened and that it was nothing more than a bad dream. Any other Scooby Doo show is worth more of your time than this awful mess.
