In the Blood
17 January 2023
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector Wah and his father, Commissioner Louis are outstanding police officers who share a close relationship. On the other hand, father and son beat cops, Uncle Ma and Dan always bicker, and end up pulling their pistol at each other while giving a parking ticket.

In the Blood is middling cop movie about a middle-aged cop (Corey Yuen) whose career has stalled, he's quite clumsy and not as competent as Andy Lau's character. The film does a fine job of mixing comedy and drama; the latter is heavy on that score with conflict between father and son. There's not much action, though the ones there are well done. Dockside scene comes to mind. However the film isn't compelling enough, the plot meanders and lacks momentum to keep things flowing from scene to scene. Plus I found Corey Yuen lacking screen presence and lacking that spark to make his character come alive. Could have been better with a sharper execution.
