I don't understand why they refuse to give us believable/interesting characters. This show was the perfect format to showcase some interesting ideas. Instead they stick to their tried and true method of forcing characters to make stupid decisions just to progress the plot. They also continue their trend of killing off any animal they have in the show, even though it could make the story more interesting.
It honestly makes me wonder if the writers are even trying anymore with these spin-offs. Within 5 minutes of the show starting, they deliver some of the laziest writing I've seen. Like usual, they want us to believe that a survivor, in this case a doomsday prepper, makes a series of mistakes that ends up getting his dog killed. This is after we see the same survivor showing us his routine and safety checks, only to ignore them a few minutes later. The worst part is that he was just steps away from his bunker, but decides that it makes more sense to fight off some walkers in the dark while his dog was barking. That series of events were so far fetched that I actually stopped watching the show and it took me a week before I decided to give it another chance.
The second episode was even worse. For all the ways that they could've done a déjà vu, they went with one of the worst implementations. As you'd expect, they made sure that none of the character's decisions make any sense so they could lazily write whatever they wanted. Like the woman who decides that the only way to get to her family is by stealing a huge oil tanker as opposed to the vehicle she was already driving. Their déjà vu episode wouldn't have worked if she just drove her own vehicle and avoided the explosion. Why not have the characters figure out what gets them killed each scene, adapting so they survive a bit longer, and working towards an actual goal that the audience is aware of?
