The Outlaws (2017)
7/10
unexpectedly entertaining

I went into this movie expecting a cliched action flick with a macho hero in the centre and what I got was actually a fairly entertaining movie with the real-life 'Heuksapa Incident' as backdrop. The Outlaws was surprisingly entertaining and fun ride that I watched the sequel immediately after.

The acting, though was nothing overly extraordinary, was rather perfectly suited for this movie. Don Lee, having only seen him in Train to Busan, did a great job in portraying the main character. I really enjoyed the ease and smoothness in his fight scenes.

The writing and dialogue felt very natural that you don't notice it. There was enough elements of humor and banter between characters to keep the movie captivating throughout.

The action sequences were at times a bit cliched (our hero never really getting too injured), but the choreography was so well done that at no point did I feel it to be too over the top.

Overall, enjoyable and fun film. The sequel The Roundup was also a fun ride.
