Episode 1 is the setup episode and given the nature of the 'comedy' premise, is a bit cringe worthy. There is a lack of laughs.
Delroy Lindo as newly released recidivist creates his usual screen presence. But his character just screams "danger!" to me and, I think, to any woman watching. He has been written to be forward and overly close to an estranged daughter with no element of "how do we do this?". In fact, his "charming" is almost predatory in picking up women.
Washington as his daughter Paige is OK but undeveloped. Mostly sensible. But her interaction lacks spontaneity and could do with some wise cracks. Throughout the episode I wanted to scream "No. Run!"
