Visually beautiful amplified with wonderfully selected actor's accent
14 March 2023
Visually beautiful paintings, photographed with actual live landscapes matching the paintings, amplified with wonderfully selected actor's accent, and script taken from the artist's letters to his brother, Theo. There will never be a better biographical film of this artist. The works selected are many, but the over-published ones are here surpassed by the less-often-seen-ones. What is noteworthy is the chronological chain, with Van Gogh's geographical moves, and mastery of color, brush, and composition technique. All of his work was from age 27 to 37 - some 900 paintings. We are told he asked his agent (brother Theo) to not lower the sale prices; elsewhere he says he sold but one work while living. Death was by suicide.
