Ratataplan (1979)
7/10
A bit disjointed, but a cool watch.

Ratataplan was shown on TV with no translation. And i watched it that way now. It's not like i had a choice anyway, since the only copy i've found was with the original audio track. The movie is mostly mute, but there is some number of lines in different languages. The english lines in the beginning are probably the only ones that matter, the rest is just for the flavour.

It's a comedy film combining a bit of slapstick, with a bit of clownery, and a bit of goldberg machines. In separate segments. It's a bit disjointed as a film because of that. The slap-stick short and the clownery short are inserted into the third enveloping short about the inventor. But there's enough small interconnectivity to hold it together.

Basically the outline goes that a great engineer has failed a job interview because of tardiness, and now he has to earn his money by working at a drinks kiosk, then by working at a circus. The enveloping ark of the film is him trying to win over a dancer girl who likes a guy that can dance.

It's a cool movie, the cheap props look good. It's an unusual and interesting film, and i would definitely call it memorable.
