For most of "Muted," the series felt like it doesn't know what it wants to do. The crime drama has a number of plot threads that don't work together to form a cohesive narrative. Characters are inserted and withdrawn at will, painted in a certain light and then suddenly switched up in their portrayal, and ultimately you can't take anything seriously and you're simply going with the flow. Ana's character exemplifies this the most, where what begins as a typical work obsession takes a whole other direction that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sergio (our anti-hero) is a killer, but then he's misunderstood, but then he's broken and a victim, but then he's actually a crazy killer.

It gets tiresome after a while, but at least I found it amusing. I actually chuckled at the ending of the last episode. I won't even get into what I found unrealistic, even with my limited knowledge of the workings of law enforcement.

To give credit where it's due, there's a handful to appreciate here. The director's work is a highlight of the show, with stunning scenes and skillful camera work that elevate the storytelling. The actors mostly deliver solid performances, despite some clumsy lines in the script. The soundtrack is pretty good as well, adequately complementing the mood and tone of each scene.

I thought the show had an intriguing premise, even though it fails to explore it properly and resorts to filler drama instead. I was pleasantly surprised by one of the plot twists, but even that lost its appeal after a while. I thought this could have gone better. Oh well.
