Normally I would think this movie was trash if not for a couple of elements that stood out to prevent this. On Average I'm not a fan of narrations, but I could feel the one coming from Sebastian Maniscalco was personal. Not all that familiar with the man's comedy, but I would not be surprised if the whole movie was some sort of adaption of his stand up.
It can't possibly hurt to have Robert DeNiro playing his father. I got the impression form his performance that he like playing the character and he likes being funny. He's definitely giving some effort and not phoning this in, unlike Kim Cattrall. Don't mean to nick pick but I just got the feeling she could have been better.
Then again, the movie was not about her. Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert DeNiro had some good chemistry in the movie that worked to make their scenes together matter, which allowed an otherwise dull movie hit the mark.
