This animated film from the year I was born is an interesting one especially viewing it now.
There is a lot to like about it, for one thing it has an off kilter charm about. The animation is a bit rough at times as are some of the editing choices. Another thing I found a bit odd was the voice acting choices. Whilst some chose just to go at 100% like the skull dude whilst others were very flat. Watching group scenes was bizarre as the characters all had weird interactions and chemistry.
I did enjoy the story for the most part but found when it hit the 1hr mark the tone and pacing got a bit weird with musical interludes from characters. I did enjoy the old fashioned soundtrack as it fit well with the fantasy setting and gave it a folksy feel. There was also some good animation that really helped fulfil that fantasy feeling the film was trying to evoke.
Overall I consider that's a charmingly odd fantasy tale.
