Me Before You (2016) is a British film directed by Thea Sharrock.
Sam Claflin portrays Will Traynor, a successful banker and athlete. Within the first few minutes of the movie, we watch as Will is hit by a motorbike and becomes paralyzed from the neck down.
Emilia Clarke plays Lou Clark, a local young woman hired to keep Will company. (He has a nurse who cares for his medical and personal needs.)
Of course there's a chemistry between the two, but the movie didn't take the obvious, "Now that you're here I want to live" plot line. It's much more complex than that.
I found this film in a list of "great romantic comedies." It's not a romantic comedy, it's a romantic drama.
Me Before You has a solid 7.4 IMDb rating. I thought that it was better than that, and rated it 9.
