Saboteur (1942)

An underrated gem.

Barry Kane is accused of killing a colleague at his place of work, an aircraft factory, innocent of the crime, he goes on the run, and instantly treads in the toes of a criminal organisation.

I was told to approach this one with a degree of caution, if I'm truly honest however, I thoroughly enjoyed it, it definitely seems like one of Hitchcock's more underrated movies.

A film that defies its years, as tense and exciting as when it first landed, it is of course loaded with suspense.

I really enjoyed the story itself, the characters, the pacing, as well as the visuals, very appealing on so many levels. I loved that Pat played such a big part, of course she was gorgeous, but she had an almost heroic part to play.

The scenes at the Cinema looked fantastic, so clever and imaginative, the same can be said for The Statue of Liberty shots.

Arguably there are a couple of plot holes, a couple of moments that will have you scratching your head, but in the scale of things, it's a minor quibble.

Very, very well acted, Robert Cummings is terrific as the leading man, I had no idea what a handsome man he was, true stage presence.

This is one to watch.

8/10.
