A few years ago I discovered this movie on Netflix and I had it in the Netflix queue forever. Now that Netflix is closing their DVD delivery by the end of this month and unfortunately changes to streaming (which means that many old movies from the 1940's and 1950's will be missing), I requested "Revanche" from our public library.
At first I was rather skeptical of the usual plot (red light district, hookers, drugs, gangster etc), but fortunately the movie develops in a totally unexpected way.
Some scenes made me think of Alain Delon's film scenes in Paris.
Most of all I enjoyed the lovely scenes filmed at the protagonist's grandfather's farm. So beautiful.
In a way the story reminded me very much of Patricia Highsmith's novels, just without the usual Highsmith ending.
