For reference, these are my ratings for Na's previous movies

THE CHASER: 8/10.

THE WAILING : 8/10.

It's obvious that i like a lot his work, he is a very good director. His movies grab you by the throat and don't let you breathe until the end. However, this is a bit worse than the other two movies.

It started great. A bleak drama/crime/thriller. An accurate depiction -i suppose- of these places and these hard situations people have to face. Drama worked, actors were great. I expected more action but i was satisfied from what i was watching. Then, it became like an action movie and it was still great because this turn happened organically. Everything was making sense, it was a smooth transition from a gritty drama to an action movie.

However, the last 40-ish minutes were increasingly absurd and ridiculous. I don't mind some "plot armor" but it seemed that these people were supermen. Especially "Myun-ga" character. With all due respect, he has the body and the strength of an average 55 years old man. Yet, he literally kills men like he is Achilles, the mythological war hero. At some point, i was laughing because it became dumb. And everything was easy. People could found easily anyone who were looking for. No police, no difficulties. It was like these characters were acting alone and there was no world between them.

Still, a very good watch for every action/crime fan. If you suspend your disbelief, you will love it. If it had a better ending, i would have rated it higher.
