Grudge (I) (2021)
7/10
The Keystone Kops

Warning: Spoilers
This Turkish film included a well-constructed narrative and solid performances.

Harun, the Chief Inspector of the police force of Istanbul, is being honored for his service with a lifetime achievement award. But the luster wears off in a hurry when we witness his incompetence both past and present.

The intricately conceived plot focuses on a brother and sister team who are the masterminds in outwitting the police. That does not take an enormous amount of skill, based on this bungling group of keystone kops.

A shortcoming of the film was in the lack of credibility in the decision of Harun not to report the murder of a taxi driver that he committed in self-defense. This was the turning point in which things spiraled out of control.

The culprits could have been exposed if only Harun and his feckless supervisor had been more diligent in not charging the poor cook, who was innocent of murdering a group of thugs.

The film is worth watching for the exceptional performances.
