The Train (1964)
1/10
Just awful
30 October 2023
In 1964 film makers had much better technology available than was used this film. Colour for one thing. Filming in black and white brings nothing to the film just makes it feels more miserable than it is unless that is the point. (Plot and acting nowhere near the excellence of Schindler's list where black and white did have impact). What is most irritating is the all-American Burt Lancaster in a suit and tie taking the part of a French rail track controller closely followed by the very English Paul Schofield as a Nazi. (Every time he speaks I think of Sir Thomas More). Surely there were other actors available able to play continental Europeans. And sometimes the voices of the other actors were not in lip synch with the audio left me wondering if it is partly dubbed?
