Review of Ahsoka

Ahsoka (2023– )

Reminds me of Doctor Who though

Firstly, it seems rather unwelcoming to those who haven't completed watching all episodes of "The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" (myself included). Many characters are either unfamiliar or completely unknown, and the show fails to provide adequate introductions. Halfway through the season, I still feel that understanding the plot requires prior knowledge of the characters' backgrounds, which I lack. This makes the dialogues somewhat confusing. Additionally, the frequent use of mysterious half-smiles and slow nods by many characters doesn't contribute to clarity.

Regarding the protagonists, I'm uncertain if they are meant to be likable. Without revealing too much, I believe protagonists should typically represent "good people" with justifiable reasons for their actions and a sense of responsibility, which, in my view, this show lacks.

As for the Doctor Who aspect, I can't pinpoint exactly what reminds me of Doctor Who, but it's more about the vibe of certain minor details. For instance, the circular symbols and the Witch's coven in the first episode evoke memories of Gallifrey. Then there are the star whales, Ezra's attempt to persuade the enemy to grant them time, and of course, Huyang.

In all, I didn't enjoy it as much as the Mandalorians, but it's much more enjoyable than Obi-Wan.
