Aquatania is an isolated society that exists between the impassable jungle and the seas at the mouth of the river Nigu. They worship their god Balu under the iron rule of the high priest who are being impersonated by wicked white men stealing pearls from the villagers. Young maiden Mara has been promised to Balu, but she escapes before the ceremony is completed. She swims up the impassable Nigu to arrive at Tarzan's home. The Boy is away in England.
