Only war movie from director Haskin
31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As far as I know, that's the only war film that director Byron Haskin, the best science fiction director from his generation, has made. He gave us dramas, adventure, westerns, crime films, but no war features, except this one. And this is a pretty good one, providing an interesting plot, with a female lead playing a Nazi spy. It's not a great as Greta Garbo in MATA HARI. And, as in the movie THE LAST BLITZKRIEG, the battle of the Bulge is told from a very unusual angle. I recommend this film, it is really worth the catch and Tina Louise in her most interesting role, very ambival ent. Only war film for Haskin and a very good one. And a very moving, surprising, excellent and sad ending. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS The "good and honest " guy kills the woman he loves because she reveals herself as a traitor by shooting this "honest" guy's opponent, rival, nearly enemy. Very daring, subtle indeed. Burt Reynolds - already an Alpha Male eleven years before DELIVERANCE - steals every scenes he plays in.
