La vouivre (1989)
Engrossing French red necks drama
1 February 2024
Typical French in the plot and directing, in characters and overall rural atmosphere, where characters depiction is the lead element here. You have audiences for this kind of stuff - which I belong to, from time to time though - because it is very realistic, close to actual population in those remote country side villages where hypocrisy, greed, simple minded way of thinking, backbiting, jealousy, wickedness are galore. Casting is also at the level of this story. Jean Carmet is the main interest in a however supporting character. This film remains a sad one, but beautifully made, with great care and tenderness.
