Great, moving adaptation
17 February 2024
Tom and Laura Wingfield live with their harsh, controlling mother Amanda. Tom longs to break free from his mother's clutches but feels an obligation towards his family, especially Laura who is physically and mentally frail. Laura's life centres on her glass menagerie, a way to escape from the world.

A great, moving adaptation of Tennessee Williams' famous play. Deftly and beautifully directed by Paul Newman. In fact, the performances are reminiscent of Newman's own acting - sensitive, understated, real.

Joanne Woodward, Newman's wife, plays Amanda and puts in a great performance, as do John Malkovich and Karen Allen as Tom and Laura, respectively.
