Ford as a convincing bad guy
18 February 2024
A psychologically damaged colonel who returns from the war to their hometown together with his friend and captain.

They are welcomed as heroes, but there is something very wrong with the colonel.

He is sworn in as a judge and his friend as a marshall, but he already has his reservations because he notices that something is very wrong with him.

His hatred and desire for murder causes tension within the community and the two old friends soon find themselves at odds with each other.

Glenn Ford plays the Colonel with great conviction, the crazy look in his eyes when he is provoked is a strong piece of acting.

Holden plays the Marshall well, I didn't immediately recognize him because he is still so young here.

I don't really know Ellen Drew as an actress, but she is well cast and does a good job.

It's a shame that the motivations and background of Ford's character are not given any attention, which is a downside in an otherwise excellent western.
