ElfQuest: Journey to Sorrow's End (2022 Podcast Series)
5/10
Another decent but unremarkable attempt
3 March 2024
I've been reading EQ since the beginning (has it really been 45 years?!). I have loved it and it's helped make me who I am today. (I'd make a great voice for Treestump!)

This reminds me of the motion comic from about 25 years ago... it's okay, but it lacks that je ne sais quoi. It's an easy enough listen, the voices are more or less okay with a few standouts, (Osric Chau is a delightfully good Skywise! Aaron Douglas does almost as good a Treestump as I could, & Brennan Lee Mulligan is as much fun as Pike as the real Pike) the story is more or less mostly adhered to. The music is not bad but not quite right either, perhaps a little intrusive, a bit overdone. There are occasional continuity errors, most especially with the sound effect for sending not always being applied to Strongbow's lines. I definitely get the feeling that most of the cast is just taking jobs their agent found for them, working for a paycheck, and nobody seems to have read even journey to Sorrows end novelization, or the first few issues of the original Quest!

The bottom line is that this is a lukewarm entry for fans, and a lackluster presentation without anything to grab and hold new discoverers. Yet again we are left thinking "If I ever win the power bucks jackpot, I'll do it right!"
