Fine all-girl lineup in lousy movie
8 March 2024
Set in Montana, but shot in a Chatsworth porn studio, "Wide Open Spaces" trots out attractive femme stars, but lacking is the passion and greater realism of new labels (like Girlfriends Films and Abby Winters) that came along during the following decade.

Kelly O'Dell stars as a girl from Los Angeles who moved to a cabin in Montana and is understandably lonely. Opening scene has her masturbating (with dildo and dirty magazines as aids) and imagining having sex with VCA star Juli Ashton. She phones a pal back home (Misty Rain) and gets a contact for another Montana cabin dweller, Nina Hartley, visits her, and gets the patented Nina hot sex treatment. Too bad director Wesley Emerson has two sloppy errors in these early reels: no sound of a phone or doorbell ringing appears on the soundtrack.

Main plot twist in Rodger Jacobs' script is phony: Kelly elects to buy a place and open a lesbian bar there to solve the problem of Women Seeking Women. There's a couple of sex scenes set at the bar (with poor continuity between scenes) plus Misty Rain serviced by hot girlfriend Jeanna Fine, Fine being the best player here.

Final scene is very poorly written, with purple prose dialogue and a blatantly condescending theme: Tina Tyler shows up in the bar as a local butch lesbian annoyed at the gentrification represented by invader Kelly opening the bar. Fine lectures her on "lose the guilt and enjoy life" concept and Tina is instantly won over.

At the bar we're also treated to a fleeting came by the great Kelly Nichols, playing a Hollywood writer apparently also stranded in the sticks. Apparently Kelly's bar is the only meet-up spot in the state, one would infer. Nichols is handily on set already, as the show's makeup lady.
