Woody goes to Camp Nowhere
13 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Full disclosure my 5 year old loved this, but I'm a grumpy old man whose going to scream is opinion out into the internet. I also spent the entire run time trying to figure out of there was sexual tension between a talking walrus and a human woman, so maybe I'm what's wrong with the world.

This movie was bland, forgettable and the next step in Eric Bauza's continuing quest to be Mel Blanc's successor. As a Canadian I feel like I need to state that I do love Bauza and his work. Guy is super talented and is the best thing about this movie, that is the only good thing I'll say about this movie.

I feel like this film was based on a script that was dusted off after sitting on a shelf since the 90s. The producers slapped Woody the Woodpecker into it and here we are.

Seriously, this movie has all the cliches and plot points from so many direct to video/disney channel movies that I watched growing up. I'm a psycho and I took notes

Takes place at a camp

Nerds vs jocks

Two different camps that have a long standing rivalry that's been going on for decades

Group of bullies where one is smart and the other is dumber than a bag of bricks

Each kid has an ironic fear that pairs with there special interests

Gamer kid

Math nerd

Bird nerd

Kid who likes explosives

Token goth girl

Food fight

Nerdy by the books authority figure

A competition to "save" the camp

An escaped prisoner who is trying to steal treasure thats buried somewhere in the caml

Prisoner sneaks into "bad guy" rival camp and pretends to be a new staff member

Nerds miraculously win the competition using their special interests. Which culminates in them using all of their interests for the final game.

Main girl who's parent owns the camp

Parent is played by recognizable actor who was on a popular show 20 years ago

Main girl doesnt know what her "thing" is and learns it's being a leader.

So yeah, you've probably seen a variation of this done before, and better. I also just found out that this is apparently a sequel? Maybe I'm broken, I probably am. I am writing a full review for a live action Woody the Woodpecker movie. How can my kid sit through this entire movie but won't stay still for a Ghibli movie is beyond me.
