When I began watching this train wreck of a movie I knew immediately that the sister, played by poor Liv Tyler, was insane. That said, the story was preposterous, and it's an awful movie overall. I'm glad Liv Tyler managed to have a career after a start like that.
Of course it was a 90's movie, and that kind of distorted pop look at mental illness - particularly the boy's autism - would thankfully never make it to television or cinema today.
But what on earth was Richard Dreyfuss, who had been acting for almost three decades, thinking when he agreed to be in this film? And what was an esteemed director like Bruce Beresford, with films like "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Crimes of the Heart" already under his belt, thinking?
