politics in a specific time
14 May 2024
Judson Hammond (Walter Huston) is the new President of the United States. He promised a lot during his campaign and intends to keep none of them. It's deep in The Great Depression. He's happy to live with corruption and do nothing for the people. He's recklessly driving and crashes the car. He wakes up a changed man.

William Randolph Hearst is the big name producing this movie. Some have called the reborn president as a benevolent dictator. I can certainly see that opinion during this era and the danger of it getting out of control. For me, I see him as a more engaged President. The problem comes with some of the simplistic political situations. It's a bit of a mess, but it is fascinating to see this as a piece of the political conversation during this time.
