Dyin' for a bite

Screenwriter and director Kathryn Bigelow intended to make a western, but since westerns were not particularly popular in the eighties, she decided to mix it with horror. She was not wrong. In a sea of similar vampire movies of the time, this one stands out with ... well, practically everything. Instead of a clichéd vampire horror, we got a Western drama, with an almost noir atmosphere, good music (Tangerine Dream), strong emotion, and striking characters. It is interesting that the leading duo (Adrian Pasdar and Jenny Wright) are supported by a cast (Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, and Jenette Goldstein) simply taken from the movie "Aliens" (1986), thanks to James Cameron, whom Bigelow soon married. It would be unfair not to mention here the outstanding performance of Joshua John Miller. Overall, a warm recommendation.

8/10.
