Joe Daniels leaves the old home for the city, where he hopes to become an accomplished violinist. Mary Scott, his sweetheart, writes him encouraging letters. After months in the city, Joe's music is forgotten in the pursuit of pleasure. He falls into evil ways and consorts with evil companions. He finds deception the easiest way, and he writes Mary occasionally, telling her of his success in music. Finally Mary and her father come to the city, where the father is paid a large sum of money for his farm. Friends of Joe plan to rob the aged farmer, and Joe is deputized to obtain the money. He does not know the man he is to rob is the father of his sweetheart of long ago. He meets Mary face to face, and after a struggle obtains the money. Strong, Joe's pal, asks the latter to divide the rich haul, but when Joe refuses, Strong shoots him. When the police arrive, the girl, in order to shield the man she loved, tells them that Joe died trying to save the money.
