A Spanish Dilemma review
JoeytheBrit1 July 2020
Two Spanish brothers, Fred Mace and Mack Sennett, struggle to find a way to decide which of them will win the hand of a senorita (Mabel Normand). As with many of Sennett's comedies from this era, they forgot to add the funny bits.

Funny Rivals Court a Cute Senorita
jayraskin120 October 2012
Fred Ward and Mack Sennett are two Spanish brothers seeking the hand of a lovely senorita played by Mabel Normand. They provide some simple amusement in this pleasant little ditty. They cut cards, do shooting tricks with a gun and duel with swords to determine who will be the one to get Mable.

Dell Henderson also appears as a friend trying to help Mable decide between the two brothers. Unfortunately Henderson and Ward physically look alike with both being slightly rotund, so I was not sure on first viewing who was who. It is easier to see the difference in scenes where they are together, Henderson is taller and Ward has more of a baby-face.

The first shot, about 30 seconds, seemed ruined, but the rest of the shots are fine.

The movie amounts to a little comedy sketch that would work well on Saturday Night Live today. The ending is a cute surprise.

This is a Vitagraph Film, but not much different than the Biograph films the cast starred in that same momentous year of 1912.
