Short but wildly inventive and kooky

This film is part of a collection of silent comedies from Alpha Video. Unfortunately, like most of the early films released by Alpha, the quality of the print is VERY suspect. It appears to be highly degraded but if you can ignore this you'll see that the film is quite kooky and fun.

Billy Bevan and Andy Clyde are hobos who happen upon a train and are hired as cooks. What follows are some amazingly silly gags that will annoy the extremely sophisticated...though they are funny. Seeing Bevan going fishing from the train and its aftermath is a great example--not at all sophisticated but hilarious. The same can be said for the very silly sight gag at the end. I could say more but it would spoil the fun--it's a film you just need to see for yourself. Clever and fun.

Good old-style

I have a 50's reprint of the original in 8mm film. Whenever I show it to anyone, I put on some Scott Joplin music in the background and that sets the mood pretty well. It just sets an atmosphere that you can't get by watching TV, or even going to the Movie theaters, it's the old style silent film, which, aside from any music you have in the background, all you hear is the sound of the projector. The copy I have was reprinted in the 50's in a series by Castle Films called "Old Time Comedies", I also have "S'Twos for the pot.
