"if those kids are trained anymore, they'll look like seals." So says the terrific Florence Roberts in her last film in this last entry of the Jones family series minus Papa John. No, he's not dead, only convalescing in a sanitarium after having a nervous breakdown due to the abscondment of money on a board he is a member of.
So what do mom Spring Byington, Grandma Roberts and the rest of the family do? Pack up their trunks, stuff up the trailer and move to California where byington purchases a bungalow court in the midst of a child free apartment neighborhood. This creates just cord with the owner of the neighboring apartments as it is taken over by the seven children of Italian immigrants, is that q singing and dancing children of a former stage actress and another working on scientific experiments.
Before you can sing oh there goes the neighborhood, byington faces a court battle and strives to prove that families have a right to live in comfort as much as anybody else. surprisingly funny and light, the last entry in the series is also one of the more enjoyable ones that had gotten a bit stayed as the series aged. Perhaps an episode without Prouty is exactly what it needed to catch some new life, but unfortunately, Roberts' death put a lid on any future entries. But as usual, she gets the best lines, and ends her career on a solid note.
