I checked the history and ,"Good News" the 1930 version and it never came to Germany. The story is almost the same but that's a coincidence. The finale is in AGFA color. This is the first time that some of the big stars of the German cinema during the war make their appearance in color . For the first time and with some the only time in their acting career at least during the war. Rene Deltgen, Gustave Knuth, Maria Andergast,Josef Sieber and Max Schmelling, as a spectator. As one review stated this was a sports propaganda picture. But it's mild. The plot and story is about the lives of a foot ball , rugby, team. One of the players is having a dream about becoming winner, played by Adolph Fischer who plays Heinie Gabler, and wakes up to realize he had not become the winner. The movie doesn't tell what he makes a living in or if he goes to school. His father is already at the table drinking milk,he's wondering why the coffee hasn't been made or it looks like that.Adolphs sister, played by Hilda Jansen, playing Greta Gabbler, has gone to work. She's going down to the train to get to work . She Accidentally bumps into Werner , played by Rene Deltgen, and get's his suite case over hers. He's one of the top Rugby players and he works part time as a miner. As she goes to her work down town at a department store,as a shoe sales lady,Her friend Flora, played by Ruth Lommel who is still living at the time of this writing, who works at the store, discovers that this isn't her suite case. They both opened it up and find a picture of his fiancé or girl friend and some clothes and an address. After work she immediately goes to his boarding room to give him back the case so she can get her. They get to know each other and he begins to realize he's one of the players sister, Heine. He also learns that she's one of the other rugby players girl , Jupp, played by Aryan looking Heinz Engelmann. Later on Werner is a the training Gym where Gustave Knuth, playing Karl the trainer is managing the players as they practice to be good at the game. Greta comes down to the gym to tell her brother something and meet her boyfriend but watches Werner cause she's now falling in love with him. He getting head over heel for her too. Later on he visits her girl friend, who works as a assistant to a photographer played by Carl Schonbock, Annemarie, Maria Andergast. They're relationship isn't working cause he's gone all the time and are thinking of quiting. After there first game and Rene's team won they have a dinner celebration with the staff . Guess who show up as an extra? You guessed it. Hitler, in form of a painting. Before you know it the wining team and the other team , I think has a sing along in which they can compete against each other singing. Flora tries to persuade Greta to go with her and her friends out after the dinner party but Rene insist that she stays. When they go home on a train Heinz falls a sleep and Greta and Werner hold hands but she pushes away. During the miner scene the ceiling caves in trapping Werner and Heinze in the cave. Nothing serious they are rescued.. Well the Rugby team are on the train to play their be game. They say good bye to the townsman. eventually Greta decides to leave and see the game so she can talk to Annemarie to patch up indifferent with her and Werner since Greta's boyfriend ,I think, asked her to become engaged .Well they end up going to the game, now in color, and Werner's team wins. They both go back to their boyfriends. That game was a real put on with real extras. Hitler and Eva and Goebbels might of well showed up and played spectators . the actors must had some training. There were some every day realities of Nazi Germany that were put in. The zeeghiles that the team did before the game began. While a fan is jeering right behind him you see a Hitler youth in uniform. One scene Werner is meeting his young fans and they both do zeeghile and greet saying hile Hitler.Under Nazi moral code Greta and Werner couldn't break off with their loved ones to be with each other. Self sacrifice for the team. This is an excellent classic.
