Judging by the date given at the start (1848) this must be a prequel to Wagon Heels (1945). Once again Porky Pig takes the lead and wears the same outfit as last time. On his way to California gold rush, the Porkster is bothered by one nerdy bespectacled Indian with a big nose, a Mohawk and two enormous feet. Although he is even weaker looking than the Pig, this midget Mohican won't give up until he's got the Porker's scalp. Like Sheriff Bart trying to trick Mongo in "Blazing Saddles", the Indian comes up with one far fetched trick after another. But Mr. Pork is always one step ahead of him.

There are guest appearances by a Pony Express delivery man (who looks like a relative of Yosamite Sam to me) and Pocahontas herself, even then drawn like a mannequin. Porky goes all Daffy on her and promises to get her into cartoons. It's getting sillier all the time but the jokes start becoming more predictable: there's the old tomahawk automatic wood carving gag and the even older hollow tree trunk across a ravine bit. Add to this several references to The Last of the Mohicans and a surreal chase by canoe. What is a canned food factory doing in the old West anyway? It ends on the same premise as it starts, meaning we've come disappointingly full circle. Still it's nice to see Porky outsmart someone for a change and get the gold.

. . . due to the depiction of the "midget Mohican" in NOTHING BUT THE TOOTH. Anyone who could take this bespectacled troublemaker as a representation of the USA's Proud Native Peoples proves that they as racist themselves as a Wooden Cigar Store Indian. Any careful analysis of NOTHING BUT THE TOOTH will reveal that the would-be scalping runt is intended to embody Red Commie KGB U.S. Strongman Vlad "The Mad Russian" Putin on the part of Warner Bros.' always prophetic Animated Shorts Seers division (aka, The Looney Tuners). These prognosticators show American Everypig Porky running into the insufferable Putin at every turn, just as Putin and his Fake News lackeys at Fox, Facebook, and on YouTube were confronting the American Populace from every nook and cranny during the Rigged Election of 2016. This Deplorable "Midget Mohican" is red-hued because he's a COMMIE, not because he's an Indian! Porky shows that the ONLY way to deal with such an Internal Threat to our Homeland is with Extreme Prejudice! NOTHING BUT THE TOOTH is just one in a series of Clairvoyant Warner Cartoonists' warnings to We Americans of (The Then) Far Future that the only way to curtail the Putin threat once and for all is to strip Putin's 100 million Quisling Traitor adherents in the USA of their citizenship, strip them of all weapons, assets, and wardrobe under our civil forfeiture statutes, and boot them into exile on Antarctica's Larsen Ice Shelf B!!
