Dino Risi missing the train
jbgeorges23 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For their honeymoon, Salvatore and Romolo decide to take their wives to Florence by train. But a series of incidents block them in Rome, where the two couples are forced to live together in an apartment under construction and without any window. Knocked down one evening by the car of a rich woman, Salvatore suddenly found himself with amnesia. A romantic relationship with that woman will quickly catapult him director of the department store where his friend Romolo works as a salesman. Salvatore has forgotten everything, including his wife Marisa, who will undertake his reconquest. This comedy by Dino Risi, which ends a cycle after "Poor but beautiful" and "Poor girl, pretty girl" is of uneven quality. There are a few good burlesque moments, especially at the beginning in the scene of the failed train departures. But on the whole, we often go beyond the limit of exaggeration and this is killing any credibility the story could have. One of the worst moments being when Salvatore regains his memory by banging his head again... Dino Risi is not yet at his best in this production, by far, and gives the impression of experimenting things and looking after himself, which brings him everywhere and nowhere. Overall, the ton remains light and fairly funny.
