I love his films so I went to see this at a Bertolucci expo in Rome. The university professor who gave a talk before the film said this was made when Bertolucci was just starting and had hit a low point due to his first film not being well accepted in Italy. So, he went to work for the national oil/gas company where his father also worked publishing a magazine. It's a documentary on the oil business sponsored by an oil company, how hard hitting can it be?
So what you get is 2 hours of Bertolucci asking oil workers 'so, what do you do? Oh really? and what part of Italy are you from?'
'How's it going in Iran? Yeah its hot'
Then you get to see how they pull the ship into port and follow the pipeline to Bavaria. Incredibly entertaining stuff.
I would never say don't watch it, but I suffered through it.
