Puttered Around Until The End
ccthemovieman-129 April 2007
The Pink Panther looks pleased as he exits his workshop, putting the finishing touches on his put-put motor scooter, which looks almost like a motorcycle but a lot cheaper, more like a motorized bicycle. Anyway, he starts it up and winds up going backwards. That ride includes running over a billboard in which a cop was hiding.

The rest of the cartoon is more of the same: showing the Panther unable to ride this bike, and several more he constructs after the first is demolished, and the poor motorcycle cop who seems to be the victim of the Panther's mechanical ineptitude building motorbikes. The third bike - made from a radiator - is by far the funniest and it leads to a good ending, too.

Overall, it's mildly amusing and elevated by the last two gags.

I feel for the motorcycle cop in this one
llltdesq12 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This short is reasonably good, with some decent gags, though it gets a bit predictable in spots. I want to discuss this in some detail, so here there be spoilers:

The Pink Panther wants to build and ride a motorcycle (there's a recipe for disaster right there), but has trouble getting it out of reverse, which helps attract the attention of a motorcycle cop who looks like he could be the "Little White Guy" (the Pink Panther's usual foil) or a close relative. From here on in, what happens to the poor cop makes it clear that this just wasn't his day! The Pink Panther and machinery don't typically work and play well together. Okay-virtually nothing and the Pink Panther work and play well together. But the net loser here is the motorcycle cop! He gets flattened and otherwise injured throughout this short, until he finally catches his Panther and puts him in a cell.

The ending is a scream and makes the whole thing worth seeing. This short is on the five disc Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection and it and the Collection are well worth seeing. Recommended.

Building motorcycles with Pinky
TheLittleSongbird16 August 2013
Even when the Pink Panther series wasn't at its best, there was still enough to be entertained by. Put-Put, Pink doesn't see the series or Pinky at their best, even then though it's still quite good. The story does have a sense of fun and doesn't make the mistake of being dull but structurally and narratively there isn't a huge amount to it and it is rather routine. The animation quality has also been better, the style is still simple(not a problem, the simplicity has always been part of the series' charm) but with a lack of elegance in the drawings and the colours are not as vibrant. The music is outstanding though, very easy to remember and adds a lot of character and upbeat jazzy style. And the theme tune is one that you can not tire of even after hearing it umpteen times. The gags are mostly amusing more than they are laugh-out-loud hilarious, but none of them fall into the unfunny category. Faring best is the ending and the one with the third motorcycle. Pinky is cool, fun and likable still as a character though his antics are also inept, in an appealing way though. The motorcycle cop is a great supporting character, one that brings some good comedy and also a character that you feel some empathy for. To conclude, a quite good cartoon from the Pink Panther series but there's been better before Put-Put, Pink and since. 7/10 Bethany Cox

This picture documents the daunting Real Life predicament . . .
pixrox121 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . and the clever solution crafted by Badger brains in Wisconsin. Nicknamed "The Dairy State," Wisconsin's three top exports are milk, butter and cheese. Most people are familiar with only the family-size containers of these products found on the shelves of their corner grocery store. However, a fast food restaurant requires periodic deliveries of much larger quantities of such staples. For instance, a burger joint on a busy highway may go through a ton or two of cheese every week, just to adorn their cheeseburgers. By the mid 1900's some outlets were receiving delivery of three or four half-ton cheese wheels weekly. Often a dozen workers toiled in round-the-clock shifts just to carve the massive yellow discs into thin, bun-sized squares. However, as depicted during PUT-PUT, PINK, fast food labor costs nose-dived when a Badger tinkerer invented a mobile riding cheese slicer by pairing a go-cart motor with a brass bed headboard.

The panther revs it up!
OllieSuave-00720 September 2016
The Pink Panther builds a motorcycle and decides to try it out, only to find the machine going haywire like driving backwards and doing the splits. Each time the Pink Panther rebuilds his motorcycle and takes it out for a ride, a weary policeman spots him and attempts to take him in. Only when the panther's last attempt at riding the motorcycle, built with bed frame bars, that the vehicle self-destructs, enabling the police officer to finally catch up him. But, a surprise ending gives the panther the upper-hand.

A pretty funny Pink Panther cartoon with some slapstick humor and action.

Pinky goes to the motorcycles
Atreyu_II4 April 2009
This cartoon has got to be one of Pink Panther's most simplistic when it comes to story and artwork. The story is fun, even if not terrific. The artwork is relatively poor, even for the standards of these cartoons.

Yet, like in any of these cartoons, Pinky finds himself into a new challenge on this one. Here, he builds and drives motorcycles. However, things with the motorcycle go wrong and he sees himself unable to control the motorcycle driving backwards at a dangerous speed, which leads him to confrontations with a police man - who, actually and as a coincidence, happens to drive a motorcycle as well.

Anyway, there are moments of fun and moments that makes one give some laughters. Classic humor, what more can I say? Like I said, it's not much of a story, but still is entertaining and enjoyable enough.
