It's wild, all right

Country girl comes to the big city, gets into all kinds of trouble. Not a great movie by any means, but it's sexy and fairly interesting, especially if you're into early '70s sleazefests. The director later helmed a couple of the infamous "Ilsa" movies, so you should know what you're getting yourself into here.

Fast forward to the last 10 minutes

An irredeemable piece of girl-on-the-run softcore swill. 'Gypsy' abandons her creepy dad and takes off to Hollywood with a biker hunk. In this city of sin they mostly pad the runtime by wandering around and acting like jackasses. All the excitement this wild LA scene has to offer them is a lame LSD orgy. After some mundane career advancements as a courtesan, Gypsy goes back to the hippies who take her to a Satanist. The film finally starts to accumulate a bit of manic energy before an abrupt, cop out ending. I guess 72 was too early to bring the sleazy potential of the premise to its proper realisation. I would steer clear off this cack and watch the offensive 'Defiance of Good' instead.

Warning: Spoilers
Feisty farmer's daughter Gypsy (hottie Donna Young) gets it on with the new hired help, drifter Mick (Kipp Whitman). When daddy realises his not-so-little girl has been fooling around, he decides to get a little action as well. Mick enters the room, sees the farmer forcing himself onto his daughter, beats up the old man, and leaves with Gypsy on his motorbike.

However, when Mick reminds Gypsy that he's the wild type and that their relationship is strictly temporary, the girl goes her own way, falling into a world of drugs, orgies, lesbianism, and prostitution, ultimately becoming involved with a Satanic cult.

Wild Honey is the directorial debut of Don Edmonds, the man who gave us Nazisploitation classic Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS and its trashy sequel, Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks; anyone familiar with those particular films will not be surprised to learn that Edmonds' first film is a sleazy slice of sexploitation that makes the most of its sexy star's nubile body. Young spends most of the film either partly naked, or totally naked, and gets very naughty in one or two scenes with suspiciously jumpy editing (is there a more explicit version out there somewhere?).

After lots of sex and drugs (including a threesome and an acid trip), the film wraps things up with a scene that reminded me a bit of the following year's cult classic The Wicker Man. Except that Edward Woodward wasn't impaled on a huge gold dildo.
