Derrick gets an urgent phone call from a former police officer now a privet detective, Albert Hufland. During this phone call the detective gets shot but is able to reveal that he had stumble into something big during a routine following job in a hotel. Hufland was following Dr. Soest, a known chemist, on behalf of the doctor's wife who believes her husband is having an affair. The wife is right. The doctor is staying at the hotel with a young Dutch call girl called Alina Bradley. Though the man is quite a lot older than the woman, the couple seem very happy. They plan for a future together unaware that the detective is following them. After Hufland's body is found at a phone booth, Derrick and Harry Klein are left puzzling as to who shot the detective. Then, when the detective's secretary is also found shot, with no evidence of the perpetrators, it is obvious to the police that these are the doings of professional criminals. Has Dr. Soest's work got something to do with the killings?
